Marital or Partnership Problems

“ I love her so much and I don’t want her to leave me!”--

“I don’t feel the same about my partner now”

Relationship and sexual problems are always painful. Often it seems that there is no way out, no way to solve the problem. It is so important to seek help early on.

Hello, I’m Dean Goodchild - probably your local Counselling Psychologist

Welcome all, and especially welcome if you need a therapeutic service!

The Robin Corner Practice is located in Upminster, Havering; local for East London and South Essex.  Often the NHS  is inconvenient for working professionals who would prefer a more tailored personal service. I specialise in family and relationship problems, be they, partner based or child focused. I have long experience in working with such problems. I was awarded a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology in 2004 and gained my Doctoral level Qualification in 2009 (QCoP, The British Psychological Society). This represents eight years of post-graduate training. I also provide student supervision and personal therapy for Counselling Psychologists in training. Please see my students page for more details.

Knowing that you need help, is a sign of strength!

Why do people seek Psychological Therapy?

   Loss

“Its been a while now but I still miss him so much...”

Before my accident I was looking forward to so many things but now... What’s left to hope for?

Suffering a loss in life shakes up your whole world and can lead to symptoms of mental illness. Sometimes family members just don’t understand.

Depression and Mood problems

“I can’t sleep, nothing’s is going to change and I keep eating chocolate”.

“There is just no point anymore”.

“I just seem to snap at people”

Depression has many causes. CBT treats symptoms but Mentalisation Based Psychotherapy may be necessary for more serious cases.

Is Love is ‘a form of madness’?

“I love him so much but sometimes it seems as though he doesn’t care about me. Its driving me crazy...”

“We have horrible rows now...”

“I am attracted to someone I shouldn’t be”

The structure of an individual’s ‘love profile’ forms in childhood. When balanced, love can protect us from intense stresses. But when a love-life becomes disordered both positively or negatively, Shakespeare was right, it is akin to insanity.

  Other problems

There are a million and one ways to list or describe the problems affecting our emotional lives. Everyone is unique but similarities in problem formation or aetiology give rise to effective treatments or therapy.

Primarily working with professionals and with busy parents, Robin Corner offers privacy, convenience and a friendly service.

Hearing voices and similar phenomena

“I keep hearing this voice in my head and I am frightened”.

“Sometimes, I think my head is going to explode, it hurts so much-- I need to get it out.”

Many people experience strange phenomena, hearing voices, seeing things that are not there or believing weird things. If this happens in your family you or your relative need to see a doctor. Sometimes, they occur, if no treatment is sought for an everyday problem, which worsens.

   Career difficulties

“My boss has just changed and my world has turned upside down. I don’t know where to turn....”

“I am under so much pressure and I can’t sleep”

“I’m the CO and I need to get it right first time”

Work often forms a major part of an individual’s identity. Work based pressure accounts for much mental distress and sustained pressure at work can lead to the development of serious psychological problems.

    Pregnancy, termination, miscarriage

“I am pregnant and I don’t want to have a termination but I can’t have a baby now...”

“I’ve had a showing...”

Becoming pregnant causes a massive change in a women’s outlook. When problems ensue it often causes intense distress and others tend not to appreciate how worrying or upsettng it can be.

    Children

“I want the best for my son and I can’t understand why he is having problems!”--

“She is being bullied at school. What can I do?”

Problems with children are very common but the world expects you to ‘just get on with it’. They are only young once and sometimes just two sessions is all it takes to get back on track.
